CROATIAN WINES

Croatia's wine regions are diagonally split north from south by the Dinaric Alps into two very different halves. The continental region in the north of the country with subregions Slavonia-Podunavlje and Croatian Uplands and the southern Coastal Croatia with subregions Istria and Dalmatia.

ISTRIAN MALVASIA

Although in the last twenty years different styles like fresh, macerated, aged in acacia barrels and aged in clay amforas have been developed, the most natural traits of of Malvasia Istriana should be harmony, balance and freshness. Wines are of straw yellow colour with nose of acacia flower, mineral body and bitter almond after-taste. It's beautiful young and graceful aged.

Yellow and greenish color with crystal glare. It has very distinct fragrance, dominated by floral and herbal notes. 2013 BIBICH BAS DE BAS RED

A serious blend of Syrah and Merlot (90/10), aged for 24 months in French oak. Deep red fruit essence, well developed with tobacco and spice. This is Bibich's top wine. A 67-23-10 blend of Cab Sav, Cab Franc, Merlot. This is aged 24 months in French Oak. There is some clarity on the rim. The nose smells very rich, dark fruit, red fruits, plum, cedar, veggies and olive oil. The palate has big dark fruit, tobacco, leather, chocolate, tomato and soft tannins.

2015 KABOLA SUPREMO

A lovely, deep ruby red colour. It is clear and full-bodied. The bouquet opens slowly, and new notes appear with each passing moment, dominated at first with wild blackberry notes followed by blackcurrant, a hint of vanilla, smoke, and dust, ending with ground coffee and leather. The wine is dry, warm, soft, and fresh with soft, finely grained tannins. It is flavourful with prominent minerality and powerful body. The wine is very well balanced and intense in flavour with a long finish. It is delicious and harmonious, with notes of blackcurrant in the aftertaste.

Plum, cranberry, oak, graphite, chocolate, and a hint of smokey tobacco on the nose. Linger over the glass for aromas of cedar and dried fig. BIBICH R5 RISERVA

R5 is one of the most unique Bibich wines. Very much a cellar cuvee, it also echoes back to a time prior to the advent of stainless steel and refrigeration – building oxidation into the wine rather than having a wine oxidize. The native Debit, Pošip, Maraština dominate the blend, but the exact content and proportions vary. Vinified in new and used American Oak oxidatively for a year, it is typified by aromas of browned butter, hazelnut and Mediterranean herbs. Despite the sherry like aromatics, it’s remarkably bright and integrates seamlessly with the spicy oak.

2016 GALIĆ WHITE

A very elegant whole, smooth sip and citric malt. Peach, quince, a bit of butter, a pinch of salt…Plenty of character that is revealed at the right temperature, after some time in the glass. Fermentation took place in controlled conditions, in 225 l and 500 l casks made of French and Slavonian oak as well as Slavonian acacia. The wine has aged on the lees (sur lie) in casks for 9 months.

GRAŠEVINA

Also known as Welschriesling, it is the most widely planted grape in Croatia with Kutjevo in Slavonija as the prime site. It thrives on cooler soils and continental climate. Graševina is a late harvesting grape variety and, in the simplest young and fresh style, it will have dominantly fruity, flowery character with crispy acidity and medium alcohol levels.

Had this previously after Kozlovic Selekcija and that didn’t work. Golden color. Nose of quince, very nice pear, some wet autumn leaf. Nose is expressive but unobtrusive and clean. Palate is ripe, cooked fruit, rounded. Due to high alcohols it’s very warm. Lots of spices like white pepper on the back.

2016 MEDEA PUNTA GRECA

A single vineyard Merlot aged for 18-24 months in the barrel. Dark in color and viscous in the glass. Notes of tobacco, red plum, cedar, and a touch of iron. It’s full bodied and rich with fruit. The tannins are chewy but aren’t overly drying, lengthy finish. It’s one of the best examples of Istrian Merlot.

2016 ROXANICH SORELLE

Very well balanced Chardonnay with progression and depth but not heavy on the palate. Some exotic fruit and strong peach character over ripe apple and pear. Exuberant and cider like freshness overcomes a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Very discrete on oak since 80% was aged in neutral tanks and 20% in large wooden barrels, but spicy and precise.

2019 PUŠIPEL CMREČNJAK CLASSIC

Attractive, aromatic and intensive nose of peaches, apricots, green apples, slightly herbal with grapefruit and lemon notes. Light to medium bodied, vibrant, refreshing with peach, nectarine, lemon and mineral tones on mid palate, elegant, attractive, balanced with racy mouthwatering acidity and medium long zesty finish. Not big wine but very seductive, asking for another sip. Alc: 11.5%

2019 MARAŠTINA SLADIĆ
