WINERY LUKA KRAJANČIĆ

Krajančić winery creates wines with a polished international style by combining low yield per vine and modern vinification techniques. Their journey began in 1993 when owner Luka decided to revive over 500 years of tradition. Today, their vineyards cover 3,5 hectares of land and in them only one variety grows – Pošip. With so much love and hard work dedicated to it, it comes as no surprise that his Pošip has become one the favourites amongst Croats.

INDIGENUOS DALMATIAN WINES

POŠIP
POŠIP
Primarily grown on the island of Korčula and in smaller quantities on the peninsula of Pelješac, islands of Brač and Hvar, Pakleni islands, Korlat region, and Biokovo slopes, this white grape is one of the very few that managed to resist phylloxera and still grows on its own rootstock since it was planted in sandy soils of Smokvica village on Korčula. It was the first white wine in Croatia with a denomination of origin. Pošip gives high-quality grapes with high yield and, if harvested and vinified properly, results in full-bodied white wine with a good balance of alcohol and acids. With intense aroma and flavour of dried apricots and figs it is an excellent companions to all fish and shellfish dishes.

GRK
Grk, the indigenous grape from the island of Korčula grows only around Lumbarda, a small town at the southern end of the island. Wines are white, dry, delicious, high in acidity, somewhat aromatic and fruity with hints of pine and saltiness. Fresh like a Riesling but with a nose that reminds of a Sauvignon blanc, is has a warm feel on the palate similar to a Chardonnay...

ZINFANDEL
ZINFANDEL
Wine lovers have been wondering about the origins of Zinfandel for at least a century. About 20 years ago we were told that Zinfandel was in fact Primitivo, a grape found in southern Italy and Sicily. Then, over a decade ago, we were told to forget about Primitivo, that Zinfandel was Plavac Mali, a Croatian grape. Then, in 2001, researchers finally got it right. Through DNA profiling it was determined that the true origin of Zinfandel (and Primitivo) is a grape called Crljenak Kastelanski. Crljenak Kastelanski, Primitivo and Zinfandel grapes were a perfect DNA match, and Plavac Mali turned out to be what ”a son of Zinfandel,” a cross between Crljenak and the Dobricic grape. The longstanding scientific mystery was finally solved.
